City of Bigfork

Planning and Zoning Commission Meeting February 3, 2009

Members Present: Roger Logdahl, Amy Tendrup, Ann McGarry and Lonnie Kacon

Members Absent: Gus David

Also Present: none

Vice Chairman Lonnie Kacon called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Motion to approve the January 6, 2009 minutes by McGarry, seconded by Tendrup, motion carried unanimously (MCU).

Subdivision Ordinance: The Commission reviewed a sample subdivision ordinance which establishes comprehensive platting regulations. A municipality has the option to extend its zoning and subdivision regulations to properties within two miles of its boundaries. This was something the Committee was interested in doing and wording throughout the ordinance will be amended to accurately reflect that. At some point, the existing zoning ordinance will need to be amended to reflect the same. The definitions contained in the sample subdivision ordinance will be compared to those in the existing zoning ordinance for consistency. It was noted that the Bigfork River Board would be notified of preliminary plans which relate to the Bigfork River. Other minor clarifications, inconsistencies and corrections within the ordinance were discussed. City Engineer Julie Kennedy has worked with the City of La Prairie on the same ordinance and noted that there are some recommended changes she would offer based on their experience. Storlie will work with Kennedy on those items and put the ordinance into proper format for adoption into the City Code of Ordinances. An updated version of the sample ordinance will be reviewed at the next Commission meeting.

Kacon thanked Mayor Logdahl for reappointing him to the Planning & Zoning Commission. Logdahl stated that he values the history and resources that the members of the Commission have to offer.

The Planning Commission meeting was adjourned at 6:56 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 3, 2009.

Angela L. Storlie
